Greater Irvine Chamber Hosts Students for Fourth Installment of Award-Winning Career Edge Program

The Greater Irvine Chamber, in collaboration with Google, Irvine Valley College, Webster University, Irvine, and professionals from the business community, on Oct. 6 hosted 33 students from Orange County colleges and universities for the Effective Business Communication Career Edge workshop instructed by Dr. Roopa Mathur, chair and professor, School of Business Sciences at IVC.

Helping guide students as they learned business writing, presentation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills during the session were volunteer mentors Brian Andersen, Telecomprehensive Solutions; Julie Cho, Cho Law Firm Dr. Cathleen Greiner, Rancho Santiago Community College District; Carlos Oregon, Thinkbox Technology Group; Pepper Russell, Greater Irvine Chamber; Caleb Stuart, Modern Woodmen; and Brenda Walters, Women Helping Women.

Upon completion of an individual workshop, or the series, students receive a certificate of completion, and a letter of completion/recommendation from the Chamber. Students that participate in Career Edge have an advantage during their job search and bring distinctive and marketable soft skills to the jobs they land, greatly increasing their success rate and on-the-job performance.

More than 300 students have participated in the program since it began in 2015. Career Edge is offered free to students enrolled at any college or university located in or around Irvine. Career Edge was named the 2017Outstanding Program of the Year by the Western Association of Chamber Executives and presented with a Bronze Award in the Human Capital category by the International Economic Development Council.

Instructed by Dr. Brian Dozer, Director, Webster University Irvine Metro Campus

Saturday, April 6, 2019 - Successful Business Etiquette and Workplace Behaviors

Instructed by Dr. Massiel Pérez-Calhoon, Manager of Community and Corporate Relations, Brandman University


Workshops will be held at the Greater Irvine Chamber, 36 Executive Park, Ste. 100, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
