Economic Vitality Council Meeting Identifies Solutions for 21st Century Workforce Development Challenges
Tuesday, September 04, 2018
The Greater Irvine Chamber Economic Vitality Council Meeting held in August provided business and community leaders an opportunity to explore 21st-century solutions to common obstacles in business development.
The biannual meeting brought together the Business and Workforce Development Committee and International Development Committee members and community partners to tackle a variety of issues. One of the topics discussed was how the Chamber can help Irvine businesses attract and retain talent.
As an alternative to traditional job fairs, the group discussed career education programs including coaching junior high and high school teachers and counselors with information on career opportunities in the life science and technology job sectors and digital solutions to career exploration and job matching.
Housing was on the agenda as well with potential solutions, and ways to mitigate such solutions offered for further exploration. Task forces dedicated to developing these issues and options will be discussed at the next Business and Workforce Development Committee meeting on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
