StartUp OC Investor Showcase Continues to Connect New Tech, Healthcare Businesses to VC Opportunities

Monday, April 02, 2018

Now in its second year, StartUp OC Investor Showcase, a collaboration between UCI Applied Innovation, OCTANe, and the Greater Irvine Chamber, was designed to introduce our young Irvine/Orange County companies to the venture capital they need to grow their business. Ten (10) venture capital firms attended to review and learn more about the selected the companies.

“Raising the profile of our innovative new technology and life science companies and helping them identify new rounds of funding strengthens and enhances the value of our eco-system in Irvine/Orange County,” said Linda DiMario, executive vice president of the Greater Irvine Chamber and its Economic Development division.

Start-up technology companies participating in the March 29 Showcase included: AVIAA, the first large-scale group purchasing organization for general aviation; Axis Research & Technologies, Inc., which operates a 10,100 sq. ft. medical research and educational facility that provides an elite platform for medical device manufacturers, surgeons and other healthcare professionals; XEEDA, Inc., a hardware and software security company that builds mobile hardware wallets with compatible software; GTCbio, a leading information center that provides quality forums, which facilitate the exchange of biopharmaceutical and biomedical intelligence between industry leaders, academic and government organizations, and the financial community; and Hitsfu’s Clairvoyance®, which enables outcome-driven decision making for app developers.

Five startups in the healthcare category also participated in the Showcase: Eyes 4 Lives Inc., which has created a device to effectively monitor an individual’s screen interaction in real-time to reduce issues that can lead to myopia, eye strain, and dry-eye; Charlot Biosciences, a product company focused on helping researchers accelerate the discovery of biomarkers to identify the presence of early-stage disease; NanoIVD, Inc., a molecular diagnostic company ready to deliver new biomarkers and testing platform to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes; Eyedaptic, which develops wearable augmented reality (AR) vision assistance for those with AMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration) and retinal disease; and FRESCA Medical, Inc., focused on developing a device to treat obstructive sleep apnea while improving patient comfort and compliance.

Along with UCI Applied Innovation and OCTANe, EvoNexus participated in the process to select the companies that presented details of their products and business models to venture capital groups participating in the StartUp OC Showcase.
