OC Great Park Sports Park and Greater Irvine Chamber’s Career Edge Program Recognized for Public-Private Partnerships
Monday, November 20, 2017
The Orange County Great Park Sports Complex on Nov. 16 was presented with the Orange County Business Council’s Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet Award for Public-Private Partnership.
The City of Irvine and FivePoint Holdings LLC have partnered together to develop approximately 688 acres of the Orange County Great Park. When complete, the included 194-acre Sports Complex will feature softball and baseball complexes, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. The already opened championship soccer stadium will be accompanied by “flex” fields that can be used for soccer, lacrosse, rugby, cricket, and other sports activities. The park will also feature one of the country’s largest state-of-the-art public ice facilities.
During the awards reception, Career Edge, the Greater Irvine Chamber’s soft skills program aimed at preparing students for the workplace, was recognized as a nominee in the Public-Private Partnership category. Submitted by the Chamber’s partner, Irvine Valley College, with which the program was developed and launched two years ago, more than 200 Irvine Valley College students have participated Career Edge. Because of the success of the pilot program, Career Edge is now being extended to students enrolled at any college or university located in Orange County.
The next workshop of the four-part Career Edge on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, will focus on Practical Critical Thinking & Problem Solving.
