The Tustin Unified School District will participate in the annual California Great ShakeOut at 10:19 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.

The statewide earthquake drill is the largest of its kind conducted worldwide, according to Student Services Coordinator Sean Diaz, who is coordinating the event.

All schools and the District Administration Center will participate in the drill.

The ShakeOut began in California in 2008 and is designed to provide a sense of urgency about earthquakes and to encourage people, organizations, schools and communities to get prepared, to practice what to do to be safe, and to learn how to enhance existing plans.  Tustin Unified has been an official participant in the ShakeOut since the first year.
