Greater Irvine Chamber Leaders Circle Member Edwards Lifesciences Opens New Atrium Building at its Global Headquarters in Irvine

A state-of-the-art lobby and office space for Edwards Lifesciences global headquarters located in Irvine debuted Aug. 24 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Providing welcome remarks were Irvine Mayor Don Wagner and the company’s Chairman and CEO Michael Mussallem.
“This is a good symbol of how we feel about our future,” Mussallem said of the new structure.
The new Starr Atrium is named in honor of Dr. Albert Starr, a cardiac surgeon who worked with Miles Lowell Edwards to create the first commercially available artificial heart valve and start Edwards almost 60 years ago. The 25,000 sq. ft. space serves as a meeting place for employees to convene, with bleacher-style seating and a 300-inch TV screen to be utilized for all-employee meetings. The mezzanine level provides space for hosting events, such as luncheons with global nonprofit partners.
“As we designed this space, one element we focused on incorporating is our Credo: Helping patients is our life’s work, and life is now,” said Heather Bukant, senior manager, Global Communications
Edwards Lifesciences. “This has been etched on the wall because this is our commitment, and it is unchanging – and we want employees, patients, and our partners to know that this is the focus that unifies all of us at Edwards.”
A “Champions for Life” wall recognizes employees who have been with the company for 30 years or more. One such employee, Terry Kobayashi, a senior manufacturing supervisor, shared during the celebration details of her 42-employment at Edwards.
“Being at Edwards and being a champion for life, as many of my co-workers are … is an honor to uphold,” she said.
Edwards Lifesciences has partnered with the Greater Irvine Chamber at the highest level as a Leaders Circle member since 2012.
