Greater Irvine Chamber Opposes Steep Increase for Transportation Projects Affecting Irvine Business Complex
Monday, August 21, 2017
The Irvine Transportation Commission on August 15 voted to recommend tying the increase of fees to the construction cost index (CCI), in lieu of the proposed recommendation of a one-time 108 percent increase.
On behalf of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce, Whit Peterson, director of Government Affairs has formally expressed opposition to the massive increase through letters sent to members of the Transportation Commission, spoken on the item at Commission meetings, and has met with appointed members of the Commission in an effort to reduce the proposed increase.
The City of Irvine reviews developer fees in the Irvine Business Complex (IBC) every two years to help pay for transportation projects within the IBC. This year’s proposal included a 108 percent increase over the current fees.
The commission voted 5-0 on the amended proposal and it is expected to be taken up by the City Council on September 12.
