Continuing to make news is the Federal Direct Investment (FDI) delegation mission to the U.K. in February led by Linda DiMario, vice president of Economic Development and Tourism, Greater Irvine Chamber, and the organization’s International Development Committee.

The delegation included prominent leaders among the business community: Leigh Volkland, Edwards Lifesciences; Bill Carpou, OCTANe; Kate Klimow, UCI; Jason Lantgen, Jones Lang LaSalle; Lynn Stewart, Center for International Trade Development, and DiMario and Diana Le of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce.

Visiting London, Cambridge, and Manchester over four days, the delegation met with more than 75 life science organizations, life science corporate park tenants, and individual companies interested in Irvine/Orange County or considering doing business on the West Coast

The delegation’s ambitious itinerary and schedule of meetings was supported on the ground by OCO Global, the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Commercial Service, Select U.S.A., Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the London offices of K & L Gates, and One Nucleus, an international membership organization for life science and healthcare companies, based in Cambridge, England.

Details of the FDI mission and an interview with DiMario and Carpou were featured in the spring 2017 issue of ON Highlights, a publication of One Nucleus.

DiMario shared insights into Irvine’s role as an innovation hub in California, “…Irvine was designed to provide all the elements required to help a company succeed and grow: safest city in America for 12 years in a row; strategic location; high-quality professional support services; global logistics hub with access to multiple ports and airports, markets, suppliers and customers; an educational system that delivers the talent required by life science companies; cutting edge R&D; and a thriving life science sector with which to partner, collaborate, and expand.”
