Monday, May 15, 2017
The Central Washington University’s College of the Sciences (CWU COTS) has named Linda DiMario, vice president of Economic Development & Tourism, Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce, as its 2017 Alumni of the Year.
The award is given annually to a CWU COTS graduate who has demonstrated continued interest in their field of study, contributed to the fabric of their community, and is a leader in their professional domain.
“This award was so unexpected,” said DiMario of the honor. “But I took full advantage of the award dinner to tell my professors, current students, and the CWU faculty and administration how they shaped and changed my life. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for which I am humbled and very grateful.”
DiMario was formally presented the award during a banquet hosted by University President James Gaudino on the CWU campus on May 4. During her visit to the campus, she also spoke to a class of political science and psychology students about her experience as student at CWU and her details of her career. She also met with the Dean of Colleges and Political Science Department head to establish a scholarship fund in honor of her constitutional law professor, Robert Jacobs, to be awarded to students considering a career in public service and to encourage civic engagement.
