Scharrell Jackson, Panel of Women Inspire During Chamber’s Women’s Conference
Monday, March 20, 2017
Nearly 300 professional women, and a few of their male counterparts, were on hand for what turned out to be a morning full of insights into professional achievement and heart-felt stories of overcoming personal obstacles, moments of inspiration, and the positive results of dogged determination.
Along with a speaker line-up of accomplished women business leaders, partner and COO/CFO of Squar Milner, LLP, Scharrell Jackson delivered a keynote discussion during the Women of Influence Conference held at the Island Hotel on March 17.
A highly sought-after dynamic and engaging speaker, Jackson had the audience fully engaged, with many nodding in agreement and many others tweeting away on the many points of wisdom she shared.
Talking about working in a male-dominated environment, Jackson, who raised three sons as a single parent while working full time, advised women to share, in no uncertain terms, about what their expectations are, rather than expect others to be mind readers.
“If you take nothing else from today, take this: You teach people how to treat you,” Jackson said, adding, “If you want something, go get it and don't be afraid to ask for what you want.”
Also sharing their stories, challenges, and attaining success were opening speaker and Master of Ceremonies for the event Paula Steurer, founder of Sterling Public Relations; Kim Sentovich, executive vice president of Stores and Logistics, Gymboree Corporation; Kim Shepherd, CEO of Decision Toolbox; and Monica Wise, creative director of L*SPACE Swimwear.
Presented by the Greater Irvine Chamber and sponsored by Wells Fargo, the conference included a red carpet welcome, marketplace of products, event photo booth, networking opportunities for attendees, full-plated breakfast, as well as a smoothie bar hosted by Jamba Juice during a mid-morning session break. Also, an opportunity drawing raised nearly $800 for the Chamber’s Lt. Col. Thomas U. Wall Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance for veterans and children of veterans, pursuing an education in science, business, or law enforcement at Irvine Valley College.
