Greater Irvine Chamber Supports Interim Live Music Venue at Great Park
Thursday, March 09, 2017
Irvine City Council will on March 14 consider a proposal to approve an interim live music venue in the Great Park, as a temporary replacement for the recently closed live music venue, Irvine Meadows.
The Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce has officially announced its support for the approval of an interim venue, until a final plan is set in place for a permanent live music and arts amphitheater. The support for the interim venue comes with the added expectation that Live Nation and FivePoint – two entities involving in its development – work with the city to ensure there are common-sense measures in place to protect the community, businesses, and neighbors.
For 35 years, Irvine had been the home to Irvine Meadows, which hosted some of the largest acts in the world, attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors, and helped make Irvine a destination city. Irvine has greatly benefitted from the tax revenue from ticket and retail sales, as well as the added benefit of hotel stays by guests traveling from out of town. Equally important, having a live music venue in the city contributes to the long-held vision of Irvine being a cultural torch bearer for the county.
