The Henry and Renee Segerstrom Concert Hall hosted young musicians for a special concert on March 14.
The music programs of the Irvine Unified School District were center stage during the Donald Bren Honors Concert, typically held annually until the pandemic forced a two-year hiatus.
More than 650 students performed, officials said, ranging from fifth-graders to high school seniors.
A $2 million donation from the Irvine Company was presented to the district during the concert.
The donation was part of a $45 million commitment the Irvine Company has made to support arts, music, and science education in the district. The 20-year commitment was made in 2006.
“Many school districts have drastically cut arts education over the last two decades, but Irvine’s program has flourished, thanks to community support like that of Irvine Company and its chairman, Donald Bren,” Irvine Unified School District Superintendent Terry Walker said in a statement.
