Wild Rivers Offers Season Passes for 2022 Swim Season
Sunday, October 31, 2021
There’s not an official opening date yet, but Wild Rivers developer Mike Riedel is confident enough the water park will be open next spring he’s putting season passes on sale.
The original Wild Rivers in Irvine closed in 2011 when the Irvine Company, which leased the property to the park, moved ahead with plans to build apartments. Riedel has been working since then to reopen nearby; he’s creating a new $60 million water park at the corner of Great Park Boulevard and Skyhawk, near the Great Park’s baseball fields.
Getting construction permits has been a little slow, but “I think in the coming weeks everything’s going to hit all at once and it’s going to be like ants running along an ant farm,” Riedel said Wednesday. “We’re still on schedule for a May opening.”
This is the time of year he would normally start selling season passes, so he’s doing that starting Monday, Nov., 1. People who register in advance can get early access.
A season pass to ride the slides, rafts, wave pool and other attractions will cost $160. A one-day pass to Wild Rivers will be $65.
Riedel said he’s limiting season passes to manage attendance so guests don’t get stuck waiting in long lines all day. In the heyday of the old Wild Rivers, the park sold between 18,000 and 22,000 passes; the current plan is to cap them around 10,000, with no blackout dates.
“In a lot of theme parks you spend a lot of your time waiting for the rides and very little time on the rides,” he said. “My goal is that everyone who walks into that park feels like the experience was amazing and the value that they had on that ticket price was totally worth it.”
