University of California, Irvine (UCI) has renewed as a Greater Irvine Chamber Leaders Circle platinum-level sponsor.

“Sixty years ago, in this place, there were no buildings, no roads, and for all intents and purposes no people. Not a city in sight — just open grazing land on a 90,000 acre, dusty ranch in the San Joaquin foothills. Yet the University of California, acting on behalf of the people of this great state, chose to build a new public research university here. Why? Because it knew the power of such an institution to drive growth and innovation, to spur development and advancement, to provide an environment where business flourishes and people thrive,” said UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman. “And they were right. Today that dusty ranch in the foothills is known the world over for its economic robustness, its entrepreneurial vitality, and its exceptional quality of life. And UCI is a top-tier research university that produces innovative and transformative research and creative activity, provides access for and educates a diverse student body, and serves and engages the people of our region and our state. Our Greater Irvine Chamber Leaders Circle membership is a key element of that engagement.”

Founded in 1965, UCI is the youngest member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The campus has produced three Nobel laureates and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, and innovation. Led by Chancellor Howard Gillman, UCI has more than 36,000 students, offers 222 degree programs, and has been ranked in the top 10 public universities in the U. S. by U.S News and World Report for the last seven years in a row. As Orange County’s second-largest employer and only research university, UCI fosters entrepreneurship and regional economic development that contributes $7 billion to the local economy annually. UCI is committed to excellence through diversity and a broad spectrum of people and voices are reflected in the faculty, student, and staff populations, as well as many teaching, research, and community partnerships.
