City of Irvine to Honor Fallen Troops with Modified Memorial Day Events

The City of Irvine is hosting modified Memorial Day events to allow the community to honor fallen service men and women while still maintaining health and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony
Community members are invited to pay their respects Saturday, May 29, 9 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday, May 30, noon–8 p.m. at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial at Northwood Community Park. Visitors can light a remembrance candle and complete wall rubbings of names on the memorial. Staff will be on-site to assist guests and ensure health and safety guidelines are being maintained. Northwood Community Park is located in Irvine at 4531 Bryan Avenue.

Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony
On Monday, May 31, at 10 a.m., the City will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony in virtual form. A prerecorded video presentation featuring a welcome by Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan, tributes to military fallen by commanding officers Lieutenant Colonel David Tumanjan and Sergeant Major David Caero from Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion, and presentations from former ceremonies will be available online at The May 31 virtual Memorial Day Ceremony will be also available to watch on ICTV, Cox Communications Channel 30, on AT&T U-verse Channel 99, and online at
