Monday, May 03, 2021
Kaiser Permanente Anaheim and Irvine Medical Centers have received the prestigious “A” grade for excellence in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, which released ratings as part of its spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report. This report is a biannual scorecard of nearly 2,700 U.S. hospitals.
"The health and safety of our patients and members is our top priority," said Mark Costa, senior vice president and area manager. “This past year has been unlike any other. We are very proud of this recognition, as it further exemplifies the continuous commitment of our physicians, clinicians, nurses, and staff to prioritize patient safety, even during these unprecedented times.”
Todd Newton, MD, area medical director, echoed similar sentiments. “Our physicians and care teams have an unwavering commitment to patient safety and medical excellence. Our consistently high rankings for safety are a testament to this commitment, and to the tireless dedication of our care teams and the staff and employees supporting them.”
Overall, 12 Kaiser Permanente hospitals received Leapfrog’s “A” rating in Southern California. They are: Anaheim, Downey, Fontana, Irvine, Moreno Valley, Ontario, Panorama City, Riverside, San Diego, San Diego Zion, South Bay, and West Los Angeles.
Additionally, 27 hospitals nationwide, including Anaheim Medical Center, have achieved 19 straight A’s since Spring 2012.
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade more than two dozen performance measures to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.
