Bryan Starr to Moderate UK Economic Discussion featuring British Consul General & Deputy Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner

Greater Irvine Chamber President and CEO Bryan Starr will moderate a discussion on future U.S./U.K. trading relationships, the U.K. economy, and opportunities for investment in the U.K. The event on Wednesday, May 5, 12 - 1 p.m. PDT, will feature British Consul General Emily Cloke and Deputy Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner Kunal Khatri.


Consul General Cloke is the senior representative of the U.K. government in Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii. In this role, she promotes trade and investment, scientific cooperation, tackling climate change, creative and media collaborations, and educational partnerships between the U.K. and the southwestern United States. She also oversees delivery of essential consular services to a 600,000-strong British resident community and British visitors. 

Kunal Khatri is the U.K.’s Deputy HM Trade Commissioner for the USA, based at the British Consulate General in New York City. In this role, he leads a cross-USA team to deliver new trade and investment opportunities across all economic sectors by helping U.K. firms export to and enter the market, and support U.S. firms to invest in the U.K. Prior to this, he spent five years at the British Embassy Beijing as the U.K.’s Minister-Counsellor & Director for Financial and Professional Services, and seven years at HM Treasury on financial services, international economics, and as Ministerial speechwriter. Kunal has also worked at the World Bank, United Nations, and The Economist Newspaper. 

Panelists include:

  • David L. Bahnsen, founder, managing partner and CIO, The Bahnsen Group, a bi-coastal private wealth management firm with offices in Newport Beach and New York City, managing over $2.7 billion in client assets. 
  • Bernhard Gilbey, CEO, 11 Health & Technologies, a med-tech company based in Orange County. Gilbey has spent more than 20 years leading and growing businesses.
  • Giovanna Forte, co-founder (with brother Dr. Vincent Forte), Forte Medical. In 2010 Forte's Peezy Midstream prototype won the East of England NHS Innovation Award and the U.K. Design Week Awards.

Bryan Starr leads one of California's largest chambers of commerce. He oversees the Greater Irvine Chamber's economic development and destination marketing divisions and the Irvine Chamber Education Foundation. Each of these areas has resulted in a significant positive economic impact for the community.

The event is presented by the British America Business Council of Orange County, British Consulate-General Los Angeles, and the Greater Irvine Chamber.
