For the sixth year, the Greater Irvine Chamber awarded John Colvin Memorial Scholarships, this year totaling $11,500, to students who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in a four-year degree program at a university or college in Irvine. Eligible students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, a demonstrated commitment to a fitness lifestyle, and an objective of contributing to the health and economic vitality of Irvine and California in the future.

The 2020 scholarship recipients were announced during the Chamber’s digitally presented Orange County World Trade Week. They are UC Irvine students Anganette Emily Cisneros, Jada Perez, and Isabela Zavalos; and Irvine Valley College student Libbe Phan. This is Cisneros’ second year receiving a Colvin scholarship.

The Chamber established the scholarship, in coordination with the Colvin family, in honor of John Greg Colvin, a long-time resident of Orange County, active Chamber member, and past chair of the Business Attraction and Retention Committee. He died in 2014 while training for an Ironman Triathlon.

The scholarship serves as part of the Chamber’s workforce development initiative and its task forces that facilitate the development of a 21st-century workforce through various programs.
