Irvine Rotarians and those from other Orange County chapters, along with Greater Irvine Chamber Ambassadors and members of the Irvine City Council and Irvine Police Chief Mike Hamel in April assembled and distributed 65,000 face shields to local medical first responders, including those at Kaiser Permanente in Irvine, UCI Medical Center, and nursing homes in the city. The specialized face shields were purchased with funds from the more than $120,000 raised through an online giving portal.

In the next phase of the project, Irvine Rotary, Greater Irvine Chamber Ambassadors will work with City Council members and Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner to deliver 1,000 face shields to businesses in Irvine.

Face shield“We prioritized distributing face shields to medical facilities that needed them most. Next, we want to help supply Irvine businesses that have a need for PPE as they reopen. It may be a particularly challenging time for them to get PPE as stay-in-place restrictions are being lifted,” said Beth Fujishige, president of Rotary Club of Irvine, and a Greater Irvine Chamber Ambassador.

Greater Irvine Chamber Ambassadors who have assisted in the project so far, along with Fujishige, include Joe Alvarez, Thomas Lotts, and Janet Woods.

Ambassadors interested in participating should contact Beth Fujishige.
