University Lab Partners, Irvine Company, Greater Irvine Chamber Executives Welcome OC’s First Wet-Lab Incubator

Celebrating the grand opening of University Lab Partners (ULP), Orange County’s first wet-lab incubator, ULP Founder and President Ken Beall, Irvine Company President Doug Holte, and Greater Irvine Chamber President and CEO Bryan Starr welcomed guests to the Feb. 27 program at UCI Beall Applied Innovation.
“University Lab Partners is an important addition to Irvine’s life science and med-tech startup community; it provides a home for early-stage bioscience and med-tech companies that need an environment where they can work to advance their technology forward,” Starr said. “ULP provides a unique opportunity for small companies in these sectors to successfully scale into larger companies and provides entrepreneurs with access to resources and people they might not otherwise easily be able to tap into.”
ULP is important for its resident startups, and centrally located in Irvine and Orange County, ULP is an asset for the entire Southern California region. The presence of ULP and its resident companies further establishes Irvine/Orange County as Southern California’s hub for life sciences and med-tech devices.
“ULP reaches beyond our region, it is also a valued partner for the Chamber’s foreign direct investment initiatives. ULP serves as a strong ally for our economic development team in bringing U.K. companies to Irvine for their U.S. expansion,” Starr said.
The program included a video presentation introducing some of ULP’s inaugural residents, followed by a panel discussion on innovation in the medical device space. The discussion, moderated by Beall, included panelists Gilan Megeed, analyst, Med Devices Deerfield Capital; Hank Plain, general partner, Lightstone Ventures; and Stanton Rowe, CEO, NXT Biomedical.
University Lab Partners is an independent, nonprofit program of Beall Family Foundation. It was founded in partnership with the University of California Irvine Applied Innovation. Its open innovation platform enables bioscience and med-tech companies to access unique research capabilities and a network of technical, business, and talent resources at an economical cost.
