UK Lifescience Company ForteMedical Expands to Irvine and Its Innovative Product Makes Appearance at the Oscars

The U.K.-based life science company ForteMedical has expanded to the U.S., establishing a satellite office in Irvine. The decision was aided by the Greater Irvine Chamber’s Foreign Direct Investment work in the U.K. and its Irvine Gateway soft-landing program, which helps expanding companies choose Irvine and transition to the city easily.
“ForteMedical embarked on a mission to Irvine hoping that we would find not only enthusiasm for our work, but support, contacts, and avenues into launching our HealthTech into the U.S. We have not been disappointed. The Chamber’s Irvine Gateway team is indefatigable, prescient, and kind. What more could we have asked for in a U.S. business support partner?” said Giovanna Forte, CEO, ForteMedical. “In the last 18 months, we have formed a hugely important joint venture with an Irvine business that will transform our offer and we have found valuable opportunities that point to tangible success in the U.S.”
ForteMedical has partnered with 11Health and Technologies, founded and led by Michael Seres, which designs, creates, and delivers personalized diagnostic interventions for patients using medical bags.
The wireless, Bluetooth diagnostic chip technology developed by 11Health can be implemented with Forte’s innovative urine collection device, Peezy Midstream, to create real-time, prompt, and accurate urinary tract infection analysis and diagnosis, pregnancy screening, and more. The companies’ joint ambition is to make a Smart Peezy that will also identify the problem bacteria enabling instant identification of the targeted antibiotic needed for prompt and effective treatment.
“Thanks to the strength of our life sciences sector, we were able to attract ForteMedical to Irvine. Thanks to the Irvine Gateway team of companies that worked with Giovanna to make that decision, we now welcome her to Irvine where she will grow her company and help advance the economic vitality of Irvine,” said Linda DiMario, executive vice president, Greater Irvine Chamber, who leads economic development initiatives for the organization.
Last week, Giovanna Forte visited the Chamber and met with Daniela Bota, Daniela A. Bota, M.D., Ph.D., of UCI Health, to discuss ongoing clinical trials and product applications for Peezy Midstream.
And, ForteMedical made a most unusual appearance at the Oscars in Hollywood. The company’s device was included in Everyone Wins goodie bags that were independently gifted to 2020 Academy Awards nominees in the major acting and directing categories, including Oscar Best Leading Actress winner Renee Zellweger, and Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, and Cynthia Erivo. Peezy Midstream, designed by primary care physician Vincent Forte, M.D., may be one of the most unusual gifts ever included in the Oscar swag bags. Moreover, it may be one of the most important gifts for the health of women in America.
Included with the Peezy Midstream devices was information on how women can learn more about one of the biggest hidden issues in women’s healthcare. This gift to Hollywood’s biggest stars may even save lives by drawing attention to the suffering of women around the world with urinary tract infections that often go undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or inaccurately treated because of hit-or-miss urine sample collection.
Through its Irvine Gateway program, the Greater Irvine Chamber, in collaboration with a network of public and private companies and organizations, offers qualified life science and technology companies a resource-rich package of decision-making incentives and transition benefits essential for a seamless expansion.
