Chamber-Led Life Science & Technology Delegation Returning to the U.K.
Tuesday, January 07, 2020
Once again, the Greater Irvine Chamber will lead a distinguished delegation of business leaders and life science and technology experts to the United Kingdom Feb. 17-20, 2020. This visit marks the fourth time the delegation of Greater Irvine Chamber leadership has visited the U.K. since the Chamber's Foreign Direct Investment initiative was launched in 2017.
The goal is to establish a profile for Irvine in the U.K.’s life science and technology sectors that encourages expansion-ready U.K. companies to establish their U.S. operation in Irvine/Orange County.
With the assistance of OCO Global, the delegation plans to meet with more life science and technology companies that may be exploring expansion into the U.S. and Irvine/Orange County in Southern California specifically. To date, the delegation and Chamber leadership have met with more than 100 companies, connected with more than 200 other companies and professional organizations, site visited more than two dozen UK companies and helped five U.K. companies expand to Irvine.
For the 2020 mission, the Chamber continues its collaboration with London & Partners, specifically Mayors’ International Programme initiative; two of the U.K.’s most prestigious associations in the life science field: One Nucleus and the Association of British Healthtech Industries, the U.K. Department of International Trade & Investment; and TechUK.
Four full days of meetings with U.K. companies are being planned and coordinated with OCOGlobal, London Office. All meetings will be hosted by the Chamber's long-time partner and supporter of this FDI initiative, K & L Gates London Offices, located at One Change Place next to the iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral. Also, London & Partners will be alerting their roster of companies of the opportunity to meet with the Irvine delegation during “office hours” at their location on the Thames, Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Individual appointments with the Irvine/Orange County delegation are being scheduled and coordinated by Yassin Nahi and Ian Fuller with OCO Global email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org.
A Reunion Reception will be hosted for U.K. partners and companies with whom delegation members have met over the last three years at the Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe the evening of Wednesday, Feb 19.
The Irvine/Orange County delegation includes Leigh Volkland, Edwards Lifesciences; Carlos Oregon, Thinkbox Technology Group; Sesha Neervannan, Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical Development, Allergan; Lynn Stewart, Cal State Fullerton International Office; and Greater Irvine Chamber Executive Vice President Linda DiMario and Manager, Business & International Development, Jessica Yip.
Qualified, expansion-ready companies will be invited to the Irvine/Orange County Life Science Showcase, scheduled for Oct. 27-30, 2020. This Showcase features Octane’s Medical Technology Innovation Forum, a healthcare and hospital engagement breakfast, tours of global life science and technology companies, tours and interactions with incubators and accelerators, a VIP dinner, Irvine Gateway Reception with business leaders and one-on-one meetings with Irvine Gateway experts on matters including taxes, legal, accounting, regulatory and reimbursement, tax credits and incentives, real estate and VISA assistance – all decision-making items important for an expansion to the U.S.
