National nonprofit StoryCorps and FivePoint are inviting the public to share their unique backgrounds, vivid memories, and turning points that defined their professional and personal path through Stories from the OC.

People from all walks of life in Orange County simply go online to confirm a day and time to visit recording booths located at Cadence Park within Great Park Neighborhoods in Irvine to share their stories beginning Aug. 15.

These recorded moments of living history are shared and available to hear at StoriesFromTheOC.com, and also preserved for posterity for future generations to listen to through the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps has the largest collection of human voices ever recorded (250,000+). The Irvine and Orange County residents and members of the business community have a chance to participate as StoryCorps makes a tour stop in Irvine.

“FivePoint believes strongly in creating spaces and opportunities where people from all walks of life can connect, feel energized and experience something meaningful,” said Emile Haddad, Chairman and CEO of FivePoint. “Stories from the OC is the perfect extension of our mission to introduce experiences that enrich people’s lives and move humanity forward.”

The Stories from the OC experience is set within a California campsite-themed installation that celebrates the American pastime of gathering around a campfire to share stories and memories. In addition to recording conversations, visitors may also listen to other recordings and experience how diverse, enjoyable, moving and inspiring these simple conversations can be.

Below is a summary of how the Stories from the OC experience works:

  1. Participants visit StoriesFromTheOC.com for hours at the physical location or to make an appointment to record their conversation.
  2. Participants visit the experience and recording booths located at Cadence Park (703 Benchmark, Irvine) within FivePoint’s Great Park Neighborhoods. (Alternatively, interested parties may also participate digitally through the StoryCorps App). While sessions are unscripted and unrehearsed, participants are encouraged to bring photos that evoke personal memories and a list of questions to get the conversation started.
  3. A storytelling guide will be present at the experience to assist participants with setting up their StoryCorps account on the app, tips for recording their story, how to upload the conversation to where it will be archived and share it to the Stories from the OC community page.
