Greater Irvine Chamber, UCI Beall Applied Innovation Among US Small Business Administration’s Honorees

The U.S. Small Business Administration, Orange County/Inland Empire District (SBAOC/IE) office recognized the Greater Irvine Chamber with the 2019 Community Excellence Chamber Award for contributions to the greater Irvine business community.

Greater Irvine Chamber President and CEO Bryan Starr and Executive Vice President Linda DiMario accepted the award at the 56th Annual Small Business Week Awards luncheon held at the Disneyland Hotel Grand Ballroom on June 7.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. This rings true in Irvine,” said Starr. “It’s an honor for our organization to be recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration on behalf of the Greater Irvine Chamber Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers, and professional staff that work every day to provide resources that allow local businesses to thrive.”

As part of National Small Business Week, the Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the contributions made by small business owners and champions to create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness. The SBAOC/IE awards lunch was presented in collaboration with the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Richard Sudek, executive director and chief innovation officer at UCI Beall Applied Innovation, a partner of the Greater Irvine Chamber, was recognized with the 2019 SBA District Director Award.

The following individuals, businesses, and organizations were also presented with 2019 Small Business Week awards:

California Small Business Person of the Year – Jeff Perry, president, All Industrial Tool Supply (Huntington Beach)

Small Business Person of the Year Runner-up – Mark Anthony Vaca, Sr., president, OCS Construction Services, Inc. (Riverside)

SBIR/ STTR Award – Exquadrum, Inc. (Adelanto)

Family-Owned Business of the Year – Techniglove International, Inc. (Riverside)

Young Entrepreneur of the Year – Frederick Daniel Leaf, president/CEO, Leaf Communications Consulting LLC (San Clemente)

Woman Owned Small Business of the Year – A-Tech Consulting, Inc., (Orange)

Community Excellence City Award – City of Anaheim Economic Development

Micro Business of the Year – MRS.G’s (Temecula)

SCORE Mentor of the Year – Debbie Molino, SCORE-Orange County Chapter

The Orange County / Inland Empire District Office is responsible for the delivery of SBA programs and services in the Southern California counties of Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino. Located in Santa Ana near John Wayne Airport, the office and its staff facilitate understanding and access to SBA loan programs; coordinate and conduct hundreds of training sessions and special events annually such as matchmaking forums and loan workshops; and manage a portfolio of more than 100 businesses enrolled in the agency’s 8(a) business development program.
