The Arab American Civic Council has honored longtime Arab American community leader, and recipient of the Greater Irvine Chamber 2017 Partner of the Year award, Rima Nashashibi, with the Joseph R. Haiek Lifetime Achievement Award. Nashashibi was formally recognized during the Arab American Heritage Gala in April.

“It is an honor and a privilege to receive this life time achievement award. It’s especially meaningful, because I’m doing what I love—empowering individuals including women and girls and communities," Nashashibi said.

Nashashibi, president of Global Hope 365 and a partner at SelectFirst Insurances Services—a boutique agency providing insurance coverages to businesses, is an internationally recognized speaker and political and community leader/activist. For more than 20 years she has publicly promoted tolerance, equal opportunity, and justice for persons of all genders, ethnicity, religious backgrounds, and political persuasions.

“I have always believed that one either watches the future happen or one makes it happen. At Global Hope 365 we feel it is a moral imperative to provide a better and safer future for the women and children in Orange County, California, and the nation by working and advocating to prevent harmful practices such as child marriage and human trafficking,” Nashashibi said.

Nashashibi has been a guest speaker locally, nationally, and internationally including hosted by the U.S. Department of State in Jerusalem, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. She trained the women in Saudi Arabia on how to run for office in anticipation of the historical election held in December 2015 where women participated for the first time in the history of the Kingdom.

Nashashibi founded and led organizations such as the Coalition of Women from Asia and the Middle East (educating on/preventing domestic violence), the Arab American Democratic Caucus at the California Democratic Party, One Voice in Unity PAC, and the Latino Arab American Advisory Committee. She was the first Arab American woman to hold the offices of vice chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County, which she held for 10 years, and president of the National Women's Political Caucus of Orange County. She was the first Arab American woman to run in California for a statewide office in 1998. Nashashibi was elected Deputy Director, District 2, League of United Latin American Citizens.

She is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2012 U.S. Congressional Recognition Award and the 2006 Democratic Party of Orange County Harry S. Truman Lifetime Achievement Award, and was recognized by the California State Senate in 2012 among Women Making a Difference in Orange County.

Nashashibi is a member of the Advisory Board of Friends of United Nations Relief and Works Agency USA, Arab American National Museum, International Visitors Council of Los Angeles board of directors, and is the immediate past president of the Newport Beach Women's Democratic Club.

She serves as co-chair of the Greater Irvine Chamber’s International Development Committee, is the leader of the organization’s Orange County World Trade Week Task Force.

“The team at the Greater Irvine Chamber empowers their members to the benefit of the community by providing the tools and opportunities for all to prosper through such Chamber programs as Leads Groups, Economic Vitality Committee, or World Trade Week Breakfast and Forum. The Chamber is focused on the future of greater Irvine and to that end is bringing direct investment into Irvine through its Irvine Ready! committee and delegations it has led to the U.K. That is why I continue to be involved with the Greater Irvine Chamber, its Economic Vitality Committee, and OC World Trade Week for the fifth year in a row,” Nashashibi said.
