Irvine businesses have an opportunity to get into the action as the city plays host to athletes from far and wide at one of its world-class sports facilities.

Irvine will be the host city for 16 junior National Teams, spanning all five Olympic continents, which will battle for the title of World Champions at Bill Barber Memorial Park, August 11-17. The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) tournament will showcase 62 games during eight days of global competition.

Along with the 320 athletes and 240 delegates, an estimated 1,000 spectators, per day, are expected to attend the games.

“This is a unique opportunity for local businesses to welcome athletes and softball fans from around the world with a special menu and/or discount on their services,” said Wendy Haase, senior director, Destination Irvine.

The WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup has been staged every two years and features the best youth players in the world competing on their National Teams for softball’s Official World Championship in the respective category.

“This will be one of the most important years in softball history, with two global events and three Olympic Qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Games,” said WBSC Softball Division Chairman Tommy Velazquez. “The next generation of Olympians will be playing in Irvine, this August.”
