The Greater Irvine Chamber executive team made a presentation on the State of the Chamber to the Irvine City Council and members of the public during the Jan. 22 Irvine City Council meeting. The presentation provided insight into recent accomplishments and current initiatives as they relate to the Chamber’s mission to advance the economic vitality of greater Irvine.

“[Chamber executives] are here to talk about the [Greater Irvine] Chamber and Irvine’s economic vitality,” Irvine Mayor Don Wagner said. “And, there is no better partner than the Chamber of Commerce.”

Bryan Starr, president and CEO of the Chamber, and Linda DiMario, executive vice president, delivered the Chamber update to Mayor Wagner, Irvine Councilmembers Melissa Fox, Farrah Khan, Anthony Kuo, and Christina Shea, and members of the city’s management team.

“Being invited to present to the Irvine City Council about the broad scope of work our organization conducts on behalf of the city is yet another example of the strong partnership that has been developed between the City of Irvine and the Chamber,” Starr said. “This was an opportunity for us to share not only the work of the Greater Irvine Chamber but also the benefits the organization provides to the city."

Key topics discussed were the Chamber’s workforce development, business attraction and retention, international development, export services, domestic and foreign direct investment initiatives, which highlight Irvine’s strong life science sector to highly-interested Bay Area and U.K. companies looking to expand in Southern California, and Destination Irvine’s economic impact to Irvine. In the 2017-2018 fiscal year, Destination Irvine generated more than $9 million in economic impact for Irvine. At present, the organization is on pace to double that figure by the end of the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
