US Chamber Awards Greater Irvine Chamber the Nation's Highest Accreditation
Tuesday, November 13, 2018
The United States Chamber of Commerce has awarded the Greater Irvine Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.
“Receiving the highest honor in the chamber industry is a testament to our tremendous Board of Directors, dedicated volunteers, and exceptional professional staff,” said Bryan Starr, president and CEO, Greater Irvine Chamber. “I’m extremely proud of our collective accomplishment as we continue our efforts to advance the economic vitality of greater Irvine.”
The Greater Irvine Chamber is one of seven chambers in California to hold this distinction, and one of 120 in the nation. Only 1.7 percent of all chambers in the U.S. currently have a 5-Star rating.
“With the direction and full support of the Greater Irvine Chamber Board of Directors, the very hard-working and dedicated Chamber staff, and the strong leadership of our President and CEO Bryan Starr, this accomplishment was made possible,” said Kate Klimow, chief administrative officer and director of External Relations, UCI Applied Innovation, and chair of the Chamber Board. “It’s an honor to contribute to an organization that is successfully bringing together education, community, and business leaders in the pursuit of sustained economic prosperity for the region.”
Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.
“Chambers of commerce play a critical role in their communities,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber vice president of Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management. “From connecting business owners with needed resources to advocating on behalf of their members with lawmakers, each day these outstanding chambers convene thought leaders and strengthen the collective voices of their members.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
