Irvine Councilmember Melissa Fox Discusses Affordable Housing
Tuesday, August 07, 2018
Business and community leaders had the opportunity to hear Irvine Councilmember Melissa Fox discuss affordable housing and several other topics during the Aug. 2 Greater Irvine Chamber Government Affairs meeting.
Fox pointed out that the city, in partnership with the Irvine Community Land Trust and other nonprofits, has developed Parc Derian, an affordable housing complex project adding to the city’s total affordable unit count of 4,400 units. She said the new units are in keeping with the exceptional standards for which Irvine is known.
On the Orange County Great Park, Fox said the final leg of its three-phase expansion will add four ice rinks to the extensive list of sports complexes at the Great Park. The addition of the ice rinks will allow for a higher volume of sports tourism within the city.
“We have a wonderful partnership with the Chamber to bring sports tournaments to Irvine, which generate revenue that we are able to use to further fund park amenities,” she said.
Fox also highlighted the current Council’s hard work to preserve Irvine’s Master Plan.
Legislative status reports were also presented during the meeting by representatives from the offices of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, and State Assemblyman Steven Choi, as well as an update from the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs.
