Irvine Mayor Donald P. Wagner Addresses a Packed Room at Greater Irvine Chamber

The Greater Irvine Chamber’s yearly Mayoral Update hosted Feb. 1, featured Irvine Mayor Donald Wagner. During the meeting Mayor provided an update from City Hall to a packed room of business and community leaders from Orange County.
Mayor Wagner discussed an affordable housing project on the University of California, Irvine campus, and provided status updates on the Great Park Veterans Cemetery land swap, which will be an upcoming ballot item for the public to vote on, and the prospect of USA Water Polo program calling the Great Park home. Mayor Wagner also said the city is considering the potential to include a permanent collection from the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. in the Cultural Terrace among other options.
The Mayor is scheduled to travel with the Chamber’s Foreign Direct Investment one-week trade mission delegation to theU.K. on Feb. 2. The mission is aimed at familiarizing foreign-owned companies interested in doing business in the U.S. with the benefits of locating in Irvine.
Additionally, the Mayor indicated that the city is conducting a national search for a new city manager. Sean Joyce retires this month from the position he has held since 2005.
