Timothy Leyden MBA ’92 and his wife Margaret have promised a $375,000 endowed gift to the UCI Paul Merage School of Business. The new Leyden Family Endowed Scholarship will reward undergraduate business students for exceptional academic merit, enabling them to pursue their studies with a renewed commitment to hard work and innovative problem-solving.

Thirty-five years ago, Leyden moved his family across the sea from Ireland to Southern California after accepting a job offer with Western Digital Corporation. The relocation and job change marked a pivotal step forward in his career, and he was able to earn his MBA from the Merage School while working full-time. At the same time, the transition to an unfamiliar workplace culture presented new challenges.

“Ireland had a very homogenous workforce and I needed to develop new skills to successfully lead more diverse teams,” Leyden describes. “My professors and peers at UCI were instrumental in helping me bridge those gaps and navigate U.S. workspaces with well-equipped confidence.”

The Leyden Family Endowed Scholarship is just one of many ways Leyden is committed to giving back to the alma mater that enabled him to thrive amid significant life transitions. A current member of the Dean’s Advisory Board (DAB), Leyden remains actively involved in shaping the future of UCI through mentorship and strategic planning roles.

The DAB operates at a unique intersection between industry experts and new cohorts of young professionals, allowing Leyden and his colleagues to serve as a conduit of industry knowledge for Merage School graduates. “Our primary goal is to prepare students to solve current industry challenges and drive their businesses forward in a constantly evolving environment,” he says.

Thanks to the financial gifts of the Leyden family and other generous supporters, rising business leaders can benefit from the exceptional education offered at the School.

“The Merage School community is built around the idea of people encouraging one another to use business as a means to create positive economic and social impact,” says Dean Ian O. Williamson. “We are grateful for those like Timothy and Margaret Leyden who humbly contribute their time and resources to empower students for generations to come.”
