Irvine Valley College Appoints Director of Economic and Workforce Development

Dr. Roopa Mathur, professor in the School of Business Sciences, has been named Director of Economic and Workforce Development at Irvine Valley College (IVC), effective July 1. Her interim appointment was approved on June 24 by the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees.
In this role, Mathur will serve as the college’s primary external workforce and training representative to regional agencies, consortia, partnerships, and workforce groups.
“This position is critically important in helping our students build their career pathways and connecting them to regional companies,” said IVC President Glenn R. Roquemore. “Dr. Roopa Mathur will do an excellent job in building connections for IVC, as well as connecting with workforce opportunities. IVC’s rigorous academics and career education program are preparing our students for tomorrow’s workplace.”
Mathur has taught in the School of Business Sciences for 14 years, including courses in Computer Information Management (CIM), Business/Management, and Engineering at IVC. During her tenure at IVC, she has served as chair of the School of Business Sciences, one of the faculty coordinators for the Guided Pathways framework, chair Online Education Task Force, and chair of Academic Affairs.
“I’m excited to take on this new role at IVC,” said Mathur. “I’m deeply passionate about helping connect students to fulfilling career opportunities and look forward to working with local companies and agencies to prepare a workforce that fills skills gaps and serve the needs of industry in our region.”
Prior to coming to IVC, she taught at Saddleback College as a part-time CIM instructor, and worked for five years as an Avionics Engineer working for Boeing (formerly McDonnell Douglas) in Long Beach, CA developing the C-17 Aircraft.
Mathur received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston, a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix, and a Ph.D. in Management with a specialization in Information Systems Management (ISM) from Walden University.
