Treasurer Creates Registry Linking Women to Company Boards
Friday, June 21, 2019
California’s state treasurer is launching a registry to connect women with corporations that are required to put at least one woman on their board by the end of the year.
Treasurer Fiona Ma says she’ll seek out women in accounting, banking, and finance and may expand the registry to other fields.
California mandated last year that publicly owned companies headquartered in the state put at least one woman on their board by the end of 2019 and more after that depending on the board’s size.
Ma, a Democrat, says her registry can combat the excuse from people filling out boards that they cannot find or do not know qualified women.
The Secretary of State must launch a website June 1 with details about how many companies are complying.
