Wednesday, May 15, 2019
A group of business leaders representing Irvine and Orange County traveled to Washington, D.C. this month to present to members of Congress the interests of businesses and residents in the region. Among the business leaders was Whit Peterson, director of government affairs and economic development, Greater Irvine Chamber.
During the week-long advocacy trip organized by the Orange County Business Council, the group received daily briefings from a representative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce regarding the current state of business in the nation’s capital, and met with legislators to discuss issues including the $2 trillion infrastructure investment proposal, the re-authorization of the Export-Import Bank, healthcare, water, and the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
The group met with the following representatives:
- Senator Dianne Feinstein
- Harley Rouda (CA-48)
- Mike Levin (CA-49)
- Gil Cisneros (CA-39)
- Linda Sanchez (CA-38)
- John Garamendi (CA-3)
- Staff from Senator Kamala Harris’s office
- Chief of Staff for Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46)
- Legislative Director for Rep. Grace Napolitano (CA-32)
- Staff from various committees handling legislation possibly affecting business in Orange County
“This week in D.C. was very impactful for the business community in Irvine and Orange County,” Peterson said. “The region’s entire congressional delegation changed in the last election so it is important to get in front of our legislators to gain a rapport, inform them of our priorities, and understand their thoughts on current and future legislation.”
