Christina Shea Sworn in as Mayor of Irvine

A special swearing-in ceremony was held for Irvine Mayor Christina Shea in IrvineCity Council chambers on April 9.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve as Mayor of this great city,” Mayor Shea said. “I want us to be fiscally smart and forward-thinking. I am confident and inspired to lead this wonderful community and look forward to working with my colleagues on the Council to ensure Irvine remains safe and vibrant.”

As he administered the oath of office, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer praised Mayor Shea’s long-standing commitment to the city and her compassionate and deep concern for others.

Shea has served five terms as a Councilwoman and two terms as Mayor of Irvine in 1996 and 1998.

“On behalf of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce, I congratulate Mayor Shea on her appointment,” said Bryan Starr, President and CEO, Greater Irvine Chamber. “Throughout her 30 years of service to Irvine residents and businesses, she has demonstrated her commitment to the economic vitality of the city. We look forward to her continued leadership and we are committed to partner with her as she sets out to accomplish her goals for Irvine.”

The Irvine mayoral vacancy was created when former mayor Donald P. Wagner was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in March.

The City Council appointed Councilmember Anthony Kuo as Mayor Pro Tem.
